Construction of new DEC School Buildings |
|
 |
The Dalit Education centres are normally started in rented accommodation. Once the schools are established and growing. A search is made for suitable land locally where a new school could be built. Finding and purchasing affordable and suitable land on which to build a permanent school building can be one of the more difficult aspects of each project. This land will be used to house the school, but will also be used for beautifying the community with greenery and trees, and can be used for future financial/economic development activities. The land must be zoned correctly for academic use and permission from the local authority will be sought to build a school. It generally takes 6-12 months to secure land. Once the land has been secured, a permanent school building for the Dalit Education Centre will be built. OMIF is committed to building permanent school buildings for each of its Dalit Education Centres. Centres are built in three phases, each with its own level of funding. Phase One builds a building sufficient to provide classrooms through Grade Four. When the school body requires additional classrooms, OMIF enters the subsequent building phases. |
