Dalit Emancipation and Empowerment

Print
Active Image After centuries of caste-based oppression, India's Dalits have recently made strides toward social and political freedom. A Dalit leadership coalition working with RED International's Indian Partner, Operation Mercy India Foundation (OMIF) has committed to give their children an English-based education in a worldview based on human worth, freedom and dignity.

Dalits insist that the best way to change lives, achieve measurable results in their community, and escape their plight of oppression is through education. Children receive education regardless of caste, creed or faith. Dalit children receive preference for places because the distribution of children in each school reflects the demographic representation of the heavily Dalit-dominated communities in which these Centres exist.
